My thoughts on Meta Connect 2022 and the Meta Quest Pro

I had a conflicting meeting, unfortunately, I like this 10 minute summary: https://youtu.be/F0uRvxQB-uA

To me, this is even more evidence that Meta is taking a page out of the Microsoft playbook when it comes to integration of technology. MS placed it's biggest bets on the Office Suite of programs and, by now, it has saturated the market with the use.

For example: I remember the day I met a 3rd grader that was making a PowerPoint for school. I was thinking "A PowerPoint?? how, when did this kid learn PP?" But MS didn't set out to snag that kid.

  • It created a business-use for the Suite. Quickly, post secondary school teachers got wind of the programs and said "OMG, we have to teach our students how to use Word, Excel, and PP b/c they'll be asked to on the job."
  • Then secondary teachers got wind of the programs and said "OMG, we have to teach our students how to use Word, Excel, and PP b/c they'll be asked to in higher grades
  • Then primary teachers got wind of the programs and said "OMG, we have to teach our students how to use Word, Excel, and PP b/c they'll be asked to in higher grades
  • And voila, you get a 3rd grader saturated in the use of a program.

I think Meta is aiming for the same thing: plant a seed in business and it will create back-pressure through education and other industries. (With respect to some industries that don't need this headset, like gaming.)
